Spectaculator - приложение поставляющееся со всеми мыслимыми библиотеками и даже набором нескольких игр и деловых программ для пробы эмулятора, имеющее современный интерфейс в стиле Windows XP и прекрасно выполняющее свою задачу. Оборудование эмулируется самое разное. С помощью кнопки на панели задач можно переключать модель Spectrum — от первого Spectrum 16 до нескольких модификаций Spectrum 2. Поддерживается имитация всех видов джойстиков и мышки, работа с виртуальными и настоящими дисководами. Владельцы кассет с играми могут загрузить их по старинке, присоединив магнитофон к звуковой карте. Удобнее, впрочем, воспользоваться готовыми образами кассет для Spectrum, которых в Интернете пруд пруди. Поскольку эмуляторов много, то и форматов файлов тоже не один. Spectaculator is the world's premier Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator for PCs running Microsoft® Windows® 98, ME, NT 4, 2000, XP & Vista. Spectaculator emulates the 16K/48K/128/+2/+2A/+3 Spectrums, the Russian Pentagon 128 and Scorpion ZS256 clones, and lots of additional hardware.

Режимов отображения мало: нормальный и увеличенный вдвое, также можно «имитировать экран TV» (включить чересстрочное отображение в режиме 200%). Зачем нужна последняя опция, сказать трудно — запас мощности современных компьютеров позволяет без проблем отрисовывать качественную интерполированную картинку. Тем не менее подобная возможность есть почти во всех эмуляторах, видимо, для пущей ностальгии. Возвращаясь к Spectaculator, надо вспомнить, что у Spectrum была компактная, но очень сложная клавиатура, в которой каждая кнопка выполняла 4-6 действий. Прямо на панели инструментов есть кнопка, позволяющая вызвать на экран клавиатурную подсказку. Без нее трудно набирать, например, программы на Бейсике, если эмулятор используется не только для игр. Здесь же удобные опции для выключения в эмуляторе звука, вызова «виртуального магнитофона» и манипулирования с образами кассет.

Как и в эмуляторах SNES, имеются опции для «замораживания» жизней или иных ресурсов, а также исключительно интересная возможность для создания демозаписей, например, прохождения игры с последующим их воспроизведением. Настройки позволяют разгонять 3 МГц «Спекки» до 100 МГц, «подключать» к нему оборудование, настраивать эмуляцию клавиатуры, мышки и джойстика, дисководов и звуковой системы. Производительность эмулятора с лихвой перекрывает необходимые для Spectrum вычислительные ресурсы. За все время тестирования ни единого отклонения от нормальной работы у самого эмулятора замечено не было. С играми ситуация не столь гладкая, но большая часть игр, включая такие хиты, как R-Type, Batty, Fist, Pyjamarama и многие другие, работают в точности так же, как на старых Spectrum.

- Fixed an oversight whereby some devices could override port reads from the ULA if a read selected both the ULA and an additional device due to partial port decoding.
- If you connect all eight Microdrives to the Interface 1, the eighth Microdrive now works correctly.
- Stopped an in-progess action replay (RZX) recording being finalised if the close button was clicked on the Spectaculator main window.
- Fixed the 'greyed out menus can still be selected in full screen mode' bug which resulted in an immediate crash.
- Fixed the Find Bytes option in the debugger which found invalid matches if uppercase hex values were used.
- Fixed instruction fetch monitoring when the emulation core is in fast load mode.
